Cleaning and Shelving

Time: 5 Pm to 8 PM
Hours: 3

I had hoped to spend my time organizing the Dornish collection, but I wasn't allowed into the room. I was told Sue had not left a message that I was working with her. I was dissapointed, but I decided to do some of the tasks Claire had said I could do when I was looking for work. I'll be helping her weed the government documents so part of my duties are to clean the shelves so when materials are moved, they can be shifted immediately.

I went to the government's document section and cleaned off the empty shelves and straightened the materials there. Some of the shelves were in terrible dissaray. Some were even hard to tidy because there was too much damage from sitting lopsided on the shelves for so long. The dust irritated my eyes. It looked like it had been forever since anyone had dusted. I also tried to clean off some of the books, but the dust had seemed to stain them. I was sneezing a lot. I was really bored while I did this. Cleaning isn't my favorite thing to do, for my self OR a library. Though I don't like it, I'm a stickler for book care and I like to see clean shelves with the books setting straight!

I also reshelved items from the orange shelving stations. Most of those were dictionaries. Sure, it was a boring job because dusting and reshelving isn't the most exciting part of being a librarian, but I think I got a lot done.
